Kitchen & Island Lighting

Types of lighting to use in a kitchen, over the island, and under cabinets

Depending on the size of your kitchen, the types of lighting can be used will vary. For example, if you have a large kitchen with a kitchen island in the middle of it, you may want to install island lighting fixtures usually in rectangular shapes to accommodate the size of the island and offer adequate lights for cooking preparations. Kitchen island lights usually come available in many different finishes and sizes to offer matching styles and tastes for all spaces. If you have a modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances you can use a silver or black finish lighting fixture, or if you have a Mediterranean style home and kitchen designed with Spanish Costa Del Sol style in mind, then you probably want to use a wrought iron island light with scroll iron works. Most of these fixtures are available with either incandescent light bulbs or LED bulbs depending on the design of your kitchen.

If you don’t have a large kitchen and do not have an island, then you can use mini traditional single light pendants or large pendants over the counter area. When using mini pendant lights over a kitchen counter, you might want to consider adjustable cable suspenders to be able to adjust to the height of the fixtures to your liking and to your space. Mini pendant light fixtures are available with either line voltage or low voltage versions. So, make sure to make the right choice before you make your purchase.

Another type of lighting fixture to consider for a kitchen ceiling is track lighting. By installing track lighting you can attach multiple pendant fixtures or track heads to it and adjust the lighting direction of the fixture.

Also, consider fluorescent light fixtures, these light fixtures are now available with long tube LED fluorescent bulbs. By installing and Led fixture in the kitchen ceiling you will be saving a lot of energy and cut down your power bill substantially. Cooking and lighting – Whether using an island or counter space to prepare the food in your home, one of the most important thing to have is the right lighting fixtures with the correct amount of lumens produced. Installing lighting fixtures under the kitchen cabinets will assist substantially with our kitchen works. LED under cabinet lights are available with motion sensors and regular switches. Motion sensor cabinet lights are great to use in kitchen cabinets because you don’t need to touch them to turn them on and off and contaminate your food. Led kitchen cabinet light fixtures are available in different temperatures from 3000K to 7000K and hi-output versions where you can adjust the direction of the fixture to better illuminate the areas. Some of these fixtures come available with on/off dimmer operation as well. Please contact ChesterLighting.com sales team members for more info.
